CHALLENGE

Slow processes, confusing inventory management, lack of access

For compliance reasons, CSL Behring is obliged to manage all spare parts, including inventories and valuations, in SAP. This presented the operational teams at the Marburg site with considerable challenges:

On the one hand, locating spare parts and processing work orders in the ERP system took a lot of time.

On the other hand, inventory maintenance was cumbersome and confusing due to the limited options for structuring article information.

In addition, processes were considerably slowed down by the lack of access to the material data by the stakeholders involved (technicians, engineers, purchasing).

SOLUTION

Browser-based, fast interface synchronized with SAP – is that possible? Yes!

CSL Behring commissioned entitys GmbH to implement entitys.io as a central spare parts management repository for the Marburg site. It was based on the lean entitys.io interface, which can process the material master data provided from SAP via IDOC as well as work orders, reservations and stock bookings. During implementation, additional interface features were requested and added to entitys.io, making it even easier for maintenance to work efficiently. Thanks to the flexible data model of entitys.io and the headless architecture, all requirements could be implemented cost-efficiently and stably.

RESULTS

After just three months of work, entitys.io was released for the most important users in April 2024. More than 25,000 spare parts are managed with over 990 technical characteristics in more than 1,100 classes.

After a short training and some migration tasks, CSL Behring’s purchasing, technicians and engineering teams were connected to the platform; more than 200 employees now have access.

The solution led to a democratization of CSL Behring’s own spare parts information for all stakeholders (maintenance staff, technicians, engineers, purchasers), while at the same time ensuring global (compliance) guidelines through deep integration with SAP and significantly increasing process efficiency compared to an SAP-only approach.
